We had the pleasure of watching our three grandson’s again, this past weekend. Their ages are 5, 9 and 11. It’s really become a special time for all of us; quality time, and now we try to do it at least once a month. Whenever I have the boys over, my mind wanders back to the years when I was raising their mom, and their two uncles.
Being a creative type, my art supplies were always available for them to try. Together we’d make regular library, zoo, and museum trips. My kids weren’t home schooled, but their growing up was an artful one. Today, one of my son’s works as a graphic artist; all three have an eye for photography, and they are all interested in aesthetics, and how design and color compliment each other.
As a parent, and now grandparent, I urge you to let children try new things. Sit down and explore it with them; read to them regularly; be silly and tell jokes; take advantage of the world around you and your children by visiting the library, zoo, museum, art store, import stores, book store and more.
Bring your “inner child” out to play, with your children. Be a parent, but don’t be too serious all the time. Have fun!
